Put Smiles on your Basket!

Image
When the weather turns warm, it's time to once again get outdoors and enjoy every minute of the season!  Nothing could be more fun than an outdoor picnic with goodies served up from a bright and cheery picnic basket covered with smiles.  It's also a delightful shower or wedding gift that will not only be well used, but treasured for years to come.  I purchased this reasonably priced basket online from Amazon after I was unable to locate one with a wooden lid locally.   It arrived within a few days, was fabric lined, filled with accessories and was easy to paint.   You can find the FREE DOWNLOADABLE line art pattern and painting instructions for this project on the DIY page at my Annie Things Possible website.  Hope you enjoy because life truly is a picnic basket meant to be enjoyed!

DIY a Farmhouse Herb Drying Rack

Image
It was a great year for my outdoor herb garden but the time has now come to harvest and dry what I can to be used for the long winter ahead.  Since I don't have a kitchen window to grow fresh herbs indoors and a cat who loves to indulge in anything resembling greenery, I had to come up with a way to safely dry my garden delights while keeping them handy for kitchen use.  Up until now, I've been hanging them "willy-nilly" from cabinet knobs and kitchen peghooks which simply isn't practical.  So here's what I came up with to work for my limited kitchen wall space.  I already had a 9" x 12" board which I painted white and then streaked with wood stain.  The two Command small wire hooks I used were those I had on hand which I sprayed with green paint to match my board lettering.   The tree branch "rod" was one from my grandkid's outdoor "enchanted fairy forest" and the herbs were naturally harvested from my outdoor garden! It's a fact that kids find bugs fascinating and this Bug Keeper DIY recycle project is the perfect way for them to keep those bugs under observation.   Older kids will most likely be able to handle this on their own, but supervision may be required for younger children.  This free how-to project only requires a plastic 2 liter bottle,  4" square of nylon mesh screening, a chenille stem, paint pens, 3" sinamay hat, ribbon or felt strip embellishment, glue and scissors to complete.  Here are the step by step how-to instructions along with the face template for the pictured Bottled Up Bug Keeper! GARDEN FLOWER HAT

Image
Home is where you hang your hat so here's how you can jazz up an old straw hat in no time at all with items you may already have on hand!  The pictured project was made with a straw beach hat I had tucked in a closet and had long forgotten.  The silk flowers were purchased off season at a local department store and I used a cardboard ring cut from a shipping box to attach them to the hat.  You can attach the flowers right onto the hat, but if you want to easily change them out with seasonal colors, you can simply remove the cardboard ring and use the same hat all year around.  Whether you hang it on the door, wall or garden fence you'll find this craft quick, easy and so very fun to make.  This is a project that's been around crafting circles for decades so it's absolutely timeless!  Enjoy... SUPPLIES:   You'll need a straw hat, silk flowers and leaves with stems removed, cardboard cut into a wide ring to glue flowers to (optional), glue gun, ribbon color of

WISHING WITCH

Image
Here's a quick and easy project you can easily make with the kids on a rainy afternoon! You'll need craft paint, brushes, a small piece of black cardstock or posterboard, scissors and paper mache cone shapes.  I purchased a 6 pack of cones online to use for other character projects like angels, santas, candy corn, pumpkins and ghosts.  I paid half the price for the cones I found at local craft supply stores so buying in bulk was a good choice for me.  Here's a basic step-by step of how I created the Wishing Witch character.  You can add any embellishments or paint colors to make it your own.  So let's get creative and make a wish! You can right click and "save" the free pattern below!  When your witch is finished, just write a wish on a piece of paper, tuck it under the cone and wait for the magic to happen!  Enjoy and feel free to share this link ...

CREATIVE AND FREE

Image
This painting was originally created in 2000 as a cover for a scrapbook I was working on.  It was made using acrylic paint that was thinned with water in lieu of watercolors.  I particularly like this medium because it dries fast, colors don’t bleed together, it allows for a light transparent watercolor “feel” to the work and lends itself well to my style of pen and ink detailing technique.  If you think this project may be a bit too creatively challenging for you, feel free to use the pattern along with any medium you feel most comfortable with.  The main objective here is to get creative and enjoy...so why not   Go For It !  Scroll to the bottom of this post to find the free pattern...just right click and save. NOTE: If you don't know how to transfer pattern line art onto surfaces, learn right now by watching my quick tutorial how-to video... PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS PATTERNED BACKGROUND 1.  Transfer line art pattern onto watercolor paper. 2.  Thin acrylic craft pai
